The estate was founded in 1919 by Henri Gouges and continues to be owned and operated by the Gouges family. He was among the first producers to reject the Burgundian trading system, then considered corrupt. Instead, from the 1920s, Henri Gouges devoted himself to estate bottling, a rare practice at the time. In the 1930s, when the Burgundian appellations were first
