It can photosynthesize via stolen chloroplasts from its algae meal stored in the ruffles on its back. However, it still requires plenty of algae food to survive. It may be various shades of green or yellow. It is very small and may become sucked into powerheads so all pumps should be screened. It is extremely sensitive to changes in water quality.
