1991年には五代文齋を正式に襲名され、同年から1995年まで京都芸術短期大学の学長も務められました。教育者としても優れた見識を持ち、後進の育成にも尽力されました。その指導理念は「伝統は受け継ぐ形式ではなく、問い直し更新し続ける精神であるべき」という、深い哲学に根ざしております。
