Following a one week acclimatization period, the rats were randomly divided into five groups: H1 (control): No treatment., H2: Single dose of mercury (Hg) chloride (70 mg/kg) administered on the first day, H3: Continuous administration (every other day) of Hg chloride (2 mg/kg/day) for 4 weeks, H4: Single dose of Hg chloride (70 mg/kg) on the first day along with continuous administration (every other day) of N-acetylcysteine (NAC) (50 mg/kg/day) for 4 weeks, and H5: Continuous co-administration of Hg chloride (2 mg/kg/day) along with NAC (50 mg/kg/day) every other day for 4 weeks
