In a targeted DNA methylation study focusing on five genes involved in fibrogenesis modulation, the results showed hypomethylation of pro-fibrogenic genes (TGF1 and PDGF) and hypermethylation of anti-fibrogenic genes (PPAR and PPAR) in advanced MASLD compared to mild cases, suggesting that the methylation status of specific CpGs could potentially predict the severity and progression of MASLD to liver fibrosis [340]
