El 8 de septiembre de 2020, el Rdmo. Moisés Quezada Mota, Obispo de la Diócesis Episcopal de la República Dominicana, envió un mensaje de apoyo a la veterana misionera de la República Dominicana Harriet Green en Lake Charles, Louisiana. On September 8, 2020, the Rt. Rev. Moisés Quezada Mota, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of the Dominican Republic, sent a message of support to veteran Dominican Republic missioner Harriet Green in Lake Charles, Louisiana. On August 27, 2020, Hurricane Laura swept through Lake Charles with strong winds and heavy rains, damaging many buildings including St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, Harriet’s home church. The Rev. Seth Donald, Rector of St. Michael’s, had led a mission team to the Diocese of the Dominican Republic in June, 2019, where his team had worked with another team from the Diocese of Southwest Florida on the second floor of San Timoteo, the new Episcopal Church in Nizao. Harriet Green was a member of that mission team along with eight others from St. Michael’s.

In October 2015, Bishop Quezada, then the bishop-elect, had visited St. Michael’s in connection with the convention of the Diocese of Western Louisiana and a meeting of the board of directors of the Dominican Development Group, and had preached during a worship service in that church. The Diocese of Western Louisiana has had a long-standing companion relationship with the Diocese of the Dominican Republic, and in 2018 Fr. Donald was appointed as a member of the DDG board as the representative of the Rt. Rev. Jake Owensby, Bishop of Western Louisiana.

With all of these multiple connections between St. Michael’s and the Diocese of Western Louisiana with the Diocese of the Dominican Republic in mind, Bishop Quezada wrote to missioner Harriet Green that he was thankful that no members of St. Michael’s had been injured during the storm and that he was praying for the successful rebuilding of the church building and the restoration of all of their ministries. He ended his message with this: “We greatly appreciate what your church and diocese have done for our churches and our diocese in partnership with our mutual mission. Thank you for your prayers and for keeping us in your mind, and you will remain in ours.”
