A pristine veneer over a thick wooden construction, the grain is as beautiful as if it were old tortoise shell, isn't it. Variation in color ranges cognac to chocolate and it's in remarkably fine condition for age. Not a chip! The c. 1830 50 era needlework under glass which is mounted up top is what makes me think it's a sewing or work box. No lock, and a charming turned wood
